Arnold P. Ahlers

Arnold P. Ahlers, 95 years old, of Granville, IA, died Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at his home in Granville. 
      Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 7, 2011 at St. Joseph’s Catholic  Church in Granville with Rev. Richard D. Ball officiating.  Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.   Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2011.  There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Church.  Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
      Arnold was born April 7, 1916 at rural Granville, IA, the son of Herman & Josephine (Koch) Ahlers.  He was raised and educated in the Granville area and attended both country school and St. Mary’s School in Alton.  After school he began farming on the family farm.  In 1956 he took over the family farm operation along with his brothers Bernard, Ray, Urban his sister Clara.  He retired from farming in 1985 and remained on the family farm. 
      Arnold was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
      Survivors include four brothers, Vincent Ahlers, Clarence Ahlers & his wife Norma all of Remsen, IA, Urban & Edward Ahlers both of Granville; two sisters, Clara Ahlers of Granville, Rita Theisen of Canby, MN; Several nieces & nephews.
      Preceded in death by: his parents, three brothers, Herman, Bernard & Raymond Ahlers, one sister, Helen Ahlers, two half sisters, Catherine Steffes & her husband Mike, Agatha Steffes & her husband Hank, one brother-in-law, Reynold Theisen.
      Casket Bearers: David, Dan & Phil Ahlers, Ken, Gary & Paul Theisen.
