Brad F. Thiel, age 50, of Cedar Rapids and formerly of Remsen, Iowa passed away peacefully on Friday, Jan. 24, 2025 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, IA.
Visitation will be Saturday, Fed. 1, 2025 from 9 a.m. until 11a.m. With service at 11 a.m. at Teahen Funeral Home, 3100 F Ave. NW, Cedar Rapids, IA. www.teahenfuneralhome.com
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2025 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen, IA with Rev. Timothy Pick officiating and Deacon Doug Heeren assisting. Private family burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Remsen on Wednesday. Visitation with family present will be 4-6 p.m. on Monday, there will be a vigil prayer service at 5 p.m. all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. Brad was born Nov. 14, 1974 at Le Mars, IA, the son of Robert & Mary Kay (Nacke) Thiel. He was raised and educated in Remsen and attended St. Mary’s School, graduating in 1993. He attended the University of Iowa, then attended Briar Cliff University graduating with his B.A. in 1999. From there he received his M.S.E. In 2006 from Drake University & also E.D.S. In 2008. He married Sara Schneiders on July 22, 2006 at St. Mary’s Catholic church in Remsen, IA. Over the years he taught at North Butler in Greene, IA, was principal at Spaulding Catholic High School in Granville, IA, State School for Boys in Eldora, IA, Principal at St. James Catholic School in Washington, IA and Polk Alternative Education Center in Cedar Rapids.
Brad attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. He was a big fan of sports and an official for many years who was awarded the 25 years of service from the IHSAA, four years ago. He was also an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. He enjoyed golfing. Most of all he loved his son Aaron and enjoyed every minute he spent with him. Brad made friends very easily. Brad’s legacy will live on in the countless ways he touched those around him with kindness, humor, strength and unfailing sense of perspective.
Brad is survived his son, Aaron Thiel of Cedar Rapids; his mother, Mary Kay Thiel of Cherokee, IA; brothers, Bob (Karen) Thiel of Granville, IA, Mike (Monica) Thiel of Sanborn, IA; 3 nieces, Vicki, Kaitlyn & Becky; 2 nephews, Evan & Brandon; aunt’s and uncle’s, Diane (Jack) Jacobs of Clarinda, IA, Frank (Dawn Kuchel) Nacke of Remsen, IA, Mark (Marjean) Nacke of Remsen, IA.
Brad was preceded in death by his father, Robert Thiel; his uncles, Marion Thiel, Daniel “Butch” (Florence) Thiel, John “Buck” Thiel, Bernard “Shorty” (Ruth) Thiel & Dale Nacke.
Casket bearers will be Rick Schroeder, Andy Roling, Chad Harpenau, Evan and Brandon Thiel.
