Camilla J. Degen, age 90 of Granville, Iowa passed away on Sunday, December 15, 2019 at Maple Ridge Retirement Community in Omaha, Nebraska.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2 pm, Friday, December 20, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville, Iowa with Father Daniel Greving officiating and Deacon Dan Goebel assisting. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Granville. Visitation with family present, will be Friday from 12:30 p.m. until service time at the church. Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen, Iowa.
Camilla was born on July 10, 1929 to George & Leona (Ellis) Jackley in rural Ashton, Iowa. She was raised and educated in the Ashton area, graduating from St. Joseph High School in Ashton in 1947. She was then employed at the Sibley State Bank in Sibley until 1951.
On April 21, 1951 she married Robert Degen at Ashton. They made their home near Bigelow, Minnesota, where they farmed until 1952. They moved to a farm near Elkton, South Dakota. In December 1957 they moved to a farm near Whittemore, Iowa, in 1959 to a farm near Burt, Iowa, and in 1969 to a farm near LuVerne, Iowa. They moved to the Granville area to farm in January 1971 and moved into Granville in December 1993. Robert died Sept. 11, 2007. Camilla moved to Maple Ridge Retirement Community in Omaha, Nebraska in 2011.
Camilla was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Guild, and Catholic Daughters of America. She was also a hospice volunteer. At Maple Ridge she found joy in being an ambassador, welcoming residents to their new home and was a member of the Maple Ridge bell ringing musical group.
Survivors include her 8 children: Mary (Guy) Henery of Omaha, Nebraska, Joan (Kevin) Lindenstein of Gibbon, Nebraska, Larry (Mary) Degen of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Gregg (Debra) Degen of El Cajon, California, Susan (Anthony) Plaza of Omaha, Nebraska, Jane (Anthony) Orlando of Ferguson, Missouri, Paul (Veronica) Degen of Urbandale, Iowa and Dale (Melissa) Degen of Longmont, Colorado; 24 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Verna Jean Jackley of Omaha, Nebraska, Florence Goff of Sioux City, Iowa, Anita Degen of Algona, Iowa, and Ann Degen of Bancroft, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, parents, George and Leona (Ellis) Jackley, her stepparents (Lawrence and Martha Spieler); 7 brothers: Duane, Ellis, Mervin, George and 3 infants; 7 brothers-in law: Leonard, William, Donald and Reverand Jerome Degen, William Alexander, Lester Fuchsen, and Vince Lombardo; and sisters-in-law: Peg Alexander, Marion Fuchsen and Esther Lombardo.
Camilla brought joy to the life of many and will be dearly missed by her family and all those who knew her.
