Carol was born Dec. 8, 1944, the daughter of Elmer & Melinda (Plathe) Klein Sr. at Le Mars, IA. She was raised in Remsen and received her education from Remsen St. Mary’s, graduating in 1963.
On Jan. 4, 1964 she married Donald Ruba at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen. The couple farmed west of Remsen for two years, then moved into Remsen until 1981 when they moved back to the farm.
Carol was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and past member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church. Carol was a loving wife, mother and valued her family and friends. She had a deep love of her faith which she shared willingly. People could find her continuously praying the rosary and attending adoration. She was generous with her time and talents. Some of her talents were sewing, quilting, and baking bread. She was also active in the Remsen community. Her favorite community activities were making quilts for the church auction, making the kindergarten classroom quilts, mending flags for the City of Remsen, and being chair for the Remsen St. Mary's Ball. For many years she continued to share proud memories of the St. Mary's Ball. She was a competitive card and Scrabble player where losing was not an option. She enjoyed putting puzzles together, such as The Last Supper, which was displayed at the Remsen St. Mary's High School. She loved to cook, bake pies, sing and garden. You could always count on a cup of coffee and an honest opinion from Carol when visiting. She will be greatly missed.
