Charleen Kay Ruhland

September 8, 1945 — September 23, 2015

Charleen was born September 8, 1945 at Le Mars, IA, the daughter of Charles and Molly (Rann) Barthole. She was raised in Remsen and graduated from Remsen St. Mary's in 1963. She graduated from Tyler's Beauty School in Le Mars and later started up her own business in Remsen called the "Pink and Pretty" Beauty Shop. Charleen was crowned queen of Remsen's 75th Jubilee Celebration in 1964.

On April 23, 1966, she married Daniel Ruhland. The couple had two children, Russell and Brenda. After having children, she decided to be a stay at home mother. She was a very devoted and caring wife and mother. She loved to spend time with her family. She also enjoyed fishing, gambling, bingo, house cleaning and shopping. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the church guild. Charleen was a very caring and giving person to everyone she met. She will truly be missed by all who knew her.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband Dan of Remsen; her children and their families, Brenda and Kyle Gengler of Remsen, and Russ and Michelle Ruhland of Clare, IA; four grandchildren, Derek and Daren Gengler of Remsen and Nicholas and Samantha Ruhland of Clare, IA; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Ellen Ruhland, Paul and LaVonne Loutsch, all of Remsen, Larry and Dorothy Ruhland, Don and MaryLee Neubrand, Glenn and Alice Ruhland, all of Le Mars; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister in infancy, Donna; Dan's parents, Ben and Leona Ruhland; brother-in-law, Ronald Ruhland; and sister-in-law, Mary Margaret Ruhland. 

Casket Bearers will be Derek and Daren Gengler, Nicholas and Samantha Ruhland, Rodney Rann and Jackie Benstead.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 26, 2015, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy officiating and Deacon Rick Roder assisting. 
Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. on Friday, September 25th. There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m., all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
