Clarence F. Harpenau, 88 years old, of Remsen, Iowa passed away on Thursday, Jan. 27, 2022, at Good Samaritan Society in Le Mars, IA.    

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 31, 2022, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen, Iowa with Father Timothy Pick officiating and Deacon Doug Heeren assisting.  Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen, Iowa.  Graveside Military Honors will be conducted by the VFW Post 3328 and American Legion Post 220 of Remsen.  Visitation with family present will be 4-7p.m. on Sunday, there will be a Knights of Columbus rosary and vigil prayer service at 5 p.m. all at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen.  Visitation will resume 1 hour prior to the funeral on Monday at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument.  

Clarence was born February 27,1933 to Henry and Mildred (Nilles) Harpenau at Remsen, IA. He was raised in Remsen and received his education from Remsen St. Mary's graduating in 1951.  Clarence served in the U.S. Army from 1953 - 1955. He received the National Defense Service Medal. 

He married Veronica Schiefen on February 23, 1957 at St Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars,IA. The couple raised their family and farmed near Remsen

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Mary's Church Board and the Knights of Columbus. He loved farming, raising cattle and hogs. He also enjoyed vacationing, boating at Okoboji and Sunday afternoon drives.

He is survived by his wife Veronica Harpenau of Remsen, IA; their children, Mike (Bev) Harpenau of Remsen, IA, Linda (John) Steven of Alton, IA, Gary (Krista) Harpenau of Remsen, IA, Beth (Curt) Bunkers of Granville, IA, Barb (Bob) Theisen of Remsen, IA, Judy (David) Traetow of Sherburn, MN; 16 grandchildren; Jason (Danielle) Harpenau, Erin (Heath) Van Waus, Danny (Sara) Harpenau, Ryan (Kasi) Steven, Brent (Liz) Steven, Jamie Baraibar, Joni (Josh) Breuer, Nicole (Jordan) White, Luke (Jenna) Bunkers, Leah Bunkers, Brandon (Samantha) Theisen, Matt Theisen, Drew (Amanda) Theisen, Danielle (Tristin) Wilmes, Jon (Kelsey) Traetow, Kayla (Steven) Zehms; 28 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Rosemary (Denis) Schilmoeller, Carol Harpenau (Linda Leonard), Ann (Larry) Galles; his in-Laws, Ervin Ahlers, Pauline Harpenau, Jim Gergeni, Eunice Lehner, Kathy (Marlin) Mueller, Cythia Plendl, Virgil (Linda) Schiefen.

He was welcomed home by his parents, Henry and Mildred Harpenau; his father & mother-in-law, Francis and Christine Schiefen; grandson, Scott Baraibar; siblings and In-laws: Cloette (Darrell) Schroeder, JoAnn Ahlers, Jeanette Harpenau in infancy, Richard Harpenau, Jim (Mary Lea) Harpenau, Paul Harpenau and Mary Lou (Vondrak, Harpenau) Gergeni, Lowell (Sharon) Scheifen, Verl Lehner and Ken Plendl.

Casket Bearers will be, Jason Harpenau, Ryan Steven, Jamie Baraibar, Luke Bunkers, Brandon Theisen, Matt Theisen and Jon Traetow.

Honorary bearers will be members of the Knights of Columbus.
