Marcus, Iowa - James Dixson, 47, of Marcus, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars, Iowa. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 20, 2012 at Grace United Methodist Church in Marcus, Iowa. Rev. Ron Rice will officiate. Burial will follow at Marcus Amherst Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 19, 2012 at Grace United Methodist Church with a prayer service scheduled at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral on Monday.
James LeRoy Dixson was born on November 6, 1964 in Cherokee, Iowa, one of six children born to Jake Sr. and Bernice (Harman) Dixson. He graduated from Marcus High School in 1983. He later attended the University of Northern Iowa at Cedar Falls, Iowa where he majored in chemistry.
Jim owned and operated Dixson Backhoe Service along with farming south of Marcus. He also worked for VanVoorst Equipment and worked as a hog confinement manager. Along with his work, Jim was a “Jack of all trades”. He was always working on a project or helping out a friend with theirs.
On June 23, 2006 Jim and Brenda (Wiese) Simons were united in marriage at Cherokee, Iowa. They made their home on a farm south of Marcus. Jim was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Marcus. For many years Jim played Santa at Mike Allen’s Polar Express, the annual Christmas train riding event held at the Allen farm. He was featured in the local media for his years of participation. Jim thoroughly enjoyed playing Santa for his nieces, nephews and area neighbors. Jim was a strong family man. He valued his family and always put them first. They will remember him as a loving husband, father, son, brother and a friend to all that knew him. They will also remember they way he lit up the room when he entered with his infectious smile.
Grateful to have shared his life are his wife, Brenda of rural Marcus, IA; his son, Justin Dixson of Sioux City, IA; son, Tyler Simons of Mesa, AZ; a son, Cole Simons of rural Kingsley, IA; his mother, Bernice Dixson of Marcus, IA; sisters, JoAnne Dixson and her fiancé Joe Ramsey of Moline, IL and Janet Schroeder and her husband Jim of Remsen, IA; brothers, Jake Dixson Jr. and his wife Genelle of Sioux City, IA, John Dixson and his wife Mary of Newell, SD and Jay Dixson and his wife Brenda of Ottumwa, IA; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jake Dixson Sr. and his grandparents.
