Edward Lee Hansen, age 73 of Alton, Iowa died September 30, 2020 at MercyOne Siouxland Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 5, 2020 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton, with Father Dan Greving officiating and Deacon Dan Goebel assisting.  Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Alton.  Graveside military honors will be conducted by American Legion Floyd Post 200 of Alton.  Visitation with family present and keeping to social distancing restrictions will be Sunday at the church in Alton, there will be a vigil prayer service at 5p.m. with visitation to follow until 7 p.m. Viewing will resume 9:30 a.m. on Monday at the church.  Masks will be required in the church.  The funeral service will also be posted to this website after the funeral. 

Edward was born on September 13, 1947 to Joseph and Judith (Streff) Hansen in Le Mars, Iowa. He was raised on a farm near Alton and received education from Spalding Catholic School, graduating in 1965. After high school he served in the U.S. Army 101st Airborne where he earned the bronze star for his service in Vietnam.

Ed married Audrey Eloise (Boelkes) on November 21, 1970 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton, Iowa. The couple lived and farmed near Alton, where they raised dairy, beef and crops.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton.  He was known for caring for livestock, horses, weather spotting, fishing, watching baseball, spending time with family, keeping up with the grandkids’ activities, and visiting with friends. He always made a friend wherever he went. Ed also enjoyed listening to Paul Harvey, especially while milking cows.  

Survivors include his children, Mark and Rita Hansen, Granville, IA (Renae and William), Krislyn (Hansen) Althouse, Grafton, NE (Shannon and Austin), Matthew  and Tammy Hansen, Alton, IA, (Kyle, Cody, Dana and Bryn), Lisa (Hansen) and Benjamin Whitmore, Hospers, IA, (Gregory), Jenna (Hansen) and Craig Anthofer, Breda, IA (Frances); his siblings, JoAnn Hansen, Scottsdale, AZ, Carol Hansen and Tom Dusbabek, Chandler, AZ, Robert and Brenda Hansen, Greenfield, IA.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey, his parents and grandparents, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. 

Casket Bearers will be Mark Hansen, Matthew Hansen, Kyle Hansen, Cody Hansen, Gregory Whitmore, Benjamin Whitmore, Craig Anthofer and Rod Regennitter.

Memorials may be directed to the family, for a cause to be decided at a later date.
