Ellen Cora Hatz

Ellen Cora Hatz, age 96 of Remsen, IA passed away Sunday, Feb. 2, 2025 at Floyd Valley Healthcare in Le Mars, IA. 

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2025 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen, IA with Rev. Timothy Pick officiating and Deacon Doug Heeren assisting. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation with family present will be 4-6:30 p.m. on Thursday, there will be a rosary and vigil prayer service at 5 p.m. all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. Visitation will resume from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. 

Ellen was born March 30, 1928, in Remsen, IA, the daughter of John & Rose (Niehus) Weiler . She was raised an educated in Remsen and attended St. Mary’s Catholic Schools, graduating in 1945. She then attended St. Anthony School of Nursing, graduating in 1949. She then worked at Sacred Heart Hospital, which became Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars, IA. On April 19, 1950 she married Richard Hatz at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen, IA. She was a member of St Mary’s Catholic Church, church guild and Catholic Daughters of America. She had a great love for the Hawkeyes, Dick and her attended many games and tailgates over the years, she also loved the Chicago Cubs and the Bears. Survivors include her children, Beverly Hatz of Charlotte, NC; Charles N. (Debbie) Hatz of Iowa City, IA; Thomas (Debra) Hatz of Fort Mill, SC; Judy (Tim) Pick of Ames, IA; daughter-in-law, Pam Hatz of Omaha, NE; 15 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded by her parents, John and Rose (Niehus) Weiler; husband, Richard P. Hatz; son, Stephen J. Hatz; brothers, Duane (Mert) Weiler, Stanely (Ernie) Weiler, Infant twin brothers, Ora & Orla Weiler died in infancy, Allan (Doris) Weiler; sisters, Gail (Bob) Kellen, Lavonne (John) Hart; the in laws, Nick (Mary) Hatz, Paul (Linda) Hatz, Marian (Art) Kellen, Ginger (Louie) Bunkers. 

Casket Bearers will be, C. Nicholas Hatz II, Matthew Hatz, Daniel Hatz, Nick Hatz, Mitchell Pick and Martin Pick.
