Esther Pottebaum

Esther Pottebaum, 93 years old, of Remsen, IA, passed away Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013 at Good Samaritan Society in LeMars, IA.  Funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. Paul Eisele, Rev. Clair Boes and Deacon Rick Roder officiating.  Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Remsen.  Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 19, 2013.  There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. all at the Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen, IA.  Esther was born Jan. 14, 1920, at rural LeMars, IA, the daughter of Albert and Matilda (Kunkel) Mayrose.  Esther was raised in LeMars until the age of six when she moved with her family to a farm near Oyens, IA where she received her education at St. Catherine’s School in Oyens.  In 1938 she moved with her family to a farm north of Remsen where she did domestic work.  On June 13, 1946 she married Bernard Pottebaum at St. Mary’s Church in Alton where they made their home until the following year when they moved south of Oyens where they farmed until 1963 when they purchased and moved to their own farm southeast of Remsen.  They moved into Remsen in Nov. 1991.  Bernard died Dec. 30, 2001.  She then moved to Park Place Estates in 2005 and then in 2009 Good Samaritan Society in LeMars.  Esther was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, church guild, Catholic Order of Foresters and past member of the Catholic Daughters of America for 60 years.  Survivors include; four children,Wayne (Maureen) Pottebaum of Alton, Karen (Gary) Konz of LeMars, IA, Jean (Ken) Ehrp of Sioux Center, IA, Sharon (Jim) Tentinger of Remsen; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren;  one sister, Kathleen Kautzky of Ankeny, IA; three sisters-in-law, Armella Homan of Remsen, Irma Dreckman of Pipestone, MN, Maxine Pottabaum of Alton; one brother-in-law, Dan Pick of Remsen.  Preceeded by: her parents, one daughter Mary Catherine in infancy, two brothers, Cecil and Lawrence Mayrose, one sister Lorraine  Servold, numerous brothers and sisters-in-law.  Casket Bearers will be: Jeff and Jon Pottebaum, Jason and Jeff Konz, Brian and Jared Ehrp, Travis and Craig Tentinger.
