Eugene “Gene” Nicholas Wurth age 90, of Remsen, Iowa passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2024 at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen surrounded by his family.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 16, 2024 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen, IA with Rev. Timothy Pick officiating and Deacon Doug Heeren assisting. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation with family present will be 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, there will be a C.O.F./K of C rosary and vigil prayer service at 5 p.m. all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. Visitation will resume from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen, www.fischfh.com
Gene was born to Paschal (Shorty) and Mathilda (Tillie) Ruden Wurth in Paducah, Kentucky. At the age of 2 years old moved to Remsen in 1936. Gene graduated in 8th grade and then worked as a farm hand until he joined the military at 18 years old. He was honorably discharged after 2 years of service.
On January 10,1957 he married Janet Kunkel in St. Mary's Church in Remsen. The couple farmed in rural Remsen for 60 years before retiring in Remsen. Gene was members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Catholic Order of Foresters and Knights of Columbus. Gene's hobbies were playing fast pitch, going to baseball games and playing cards.
Gene is survived by his wife of 67 years, Janet, 10 children, Ron (Trish) of Remsen, IA, Ken (Michelle) of Remsen, IA, Jolene Johnson of Remsen, IA, Pat (Laura) of Remsen, IA, Jacquie (Cliff) Hansen LeMars, IA, Tim (Roxanne) of LeMars, IA, Chuck (Tracey) of Remsen, IA, Kathy Hanson of Remsen, IA, Karla (Lance) Pierce of Remsen, IA, Doug (Melissa) of Kingsley, IA, Son-in-law Jim Kelly of Kansas and 28 Grandchildren, 26 Great-grandchildren and 2 Great-great grandchildren. Brothers; Steve (Doris), Jerry, Chet (Mary Alice), Nick (Marlene), Wayne (Mary Joyce), and Vernon (Barbara). Sisters; Betty Niehus and Joyce Heidesch, Sister-in-laws Martha (Pod) Wurth and Trudy Wurth.
Gene was preceded in death by his Parents, a daughter, Diane Kelly, Sister, Shirley (John) Felts, Brothers; Don, Milo, and Bill, Sister-in-law Donna Wurth and Brother-in-law Wayne Heidesch.
