Florence Alice Nilles

Florence Alice Nilles, 74, of Remsen, Iowa passed away Saturday, April 2, 2022 at MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center in Sioux City, IA.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Fr. Timothy Pick officiating and Deacon Doug Heeren assisting.  Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen.   Visitation with family present will be 4-7pm Tuesday. There will be a Catholic Order of Foresters rosary and vigil prayer service at  5 p.m. all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. 

Florence was born April 11, 1947 the daughter of Leonard & Margaret (Sweeney) Thorman.  She received her education in Sheldon, IA.  Graduating from Sheldon High School in 1965.  She then attended Beauty School in Sioux City, IA.

On Aug. 3, 1968 she married Lorne Nilles at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sheldon, IA.  The couple made their home and farmed south of Remsen.  Lorne died June 23, 2017.

Florence was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Church Guild and Catholic Order of Foresters.  

Survivors include her children, Patty Dau of Omaha, NE, Dan (Tammy) Nilles of Remsen, Becky Nilles of Springdale, AR, Jeff (Michele) Edwards of Brookfield, MA; 9 grandchildren, Grant and Lauren Dau, Lexe (Brandon) Olsen, Delanee and Derek Nilles, Pierce (Ali) and Nate (Cassandra) Wesselink, Zachary and Megan Edwards; 5 great-grandchild, Ivana, Isla and Ava Olsen, Cameron and Parker Wesselink; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Dennis (Beverly) Nilles of Burnsville, IA, Peter “Bud” (Judy) Nilles of LeMars, IA, Shirley Nilles of Kingsley, IA, Mark (Jean) Nilles of LeMars, IA, Julie Nilles of Jackson, MN; numerous nieces, nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lorne; grandson, Randy Nilles; her siblings, Dennis Thorman and Emmett (Judy) Thorman; In-laws, George (Phyllis) Nilles, Betty Nilles, Marcela (Norbert) Hansen, Ruth (Gerald) Grage, Stanley Nilles, Clarice (Donald) Bainbridge and Tony Nilles.

Casket bearers will be Grant Dau, Derek Nilles, Brandon Olsen, Bryton Martin, Travis Schroeder and Bart Galles

Honorary bearers will be Don “Mugsy” Marx and members of the Catholic Order of Foresters.
