Frances Mary Guttner, 97 years old, of Remsen, IA passed away, Tuesday July 21, 2020 at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen.
Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, July 23, 2020 at the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen, with Father William McCarthy officiating. Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
Frances was born on March 14, 1923, to Joseph & Minnie (Unkrur) Wersinger in Le Mars, Iowa. Shortly after her birth, Frances and her family moved to Remsen. On the farm in Remsen, she was raised with her four sisters and her five brothers. Frances was the last surviving sibling.
Frances met Raymond Guttner at a dance in Remsen. They married soon after and raised their son, Gary. Frances worked predominantly as a seamstress and was an avid pinochle player. In her later years, along with playing cards, Frances enjoyed being a parishioner at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, fishing, mending clothes, and visiting with people. She also continued to work as a seamstress and babysitter. Frances was and is still known as Grandma to her own grandchildren, her great-grandchildren, and countless other children that she babysat over the decades.
Frances is survived by her son, Gary (Jane) Guttner of Pueblo, CO; three grandchildren, Michelle Guttner of Pueblo, CO, Kimberly (Joe) Rino of Greeley, CO, Christine Guttner of Greeley, CO; and two great-grandchildren, Joe & Grace Rino.
Preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Leo in infancy, Arthur (Irma), Leonard (Jackie), Lawrence (Margaret), Joseph (Viola), & Raphael (Carol) Wersinger; and her sisters, Bernadette in infancy, Helen (Edmund) Jochum, Gertrude (Henry) Bush, Rose (Frank) Stallo and Mary Wersinger.
