Marcus, Iowa – Nancy "Red" Galigan, 63, of Marcus, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 20, 2012 at the Earnest – Johnson Funeral Home in Marcus. Rev. Liz Pfeifle will officiate. Burial will follow at Marcus Amherst Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at the Earnest – Johnson Funeral Home. The family will be present from 5-8 p.m. to greet friends. Visitation will resume at 9:00 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
Nancy Ione Galigan was born on April 7, 1949 in Cherokee, Iowa, the daughter of Donald and Margaret (Morton) McQueen. She was raised in the Grand Meadow area where she attended grade school. After the two schools merged, Nancy graduated from Marcus High School in 1967. She also attended Stewart’s Beauty School in Sioux City.
On August 3, 1968 Nancy and Steve Galigan were united in marriage at Meadow Star United Methodist Church, rural Washta, Iowa. After their marriage, Nancy tended bar at various locations in the area. She later started a career cleaning homes and businesses in the Marcus area.
Nancy was known for her wonderful cooking and baking. She enjoyed fishing, crafts and shopping. She loved animals, especially her favorite dog Cocoa, an Australian Kelpie.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of nearly 44 years, Steve Galigan of Marcus, Iowa; sisters, Carol Long of Altoona, Iowa, Elaine and Roger Leavitt of Marcus, Iowa and Gail and Richard Korn of Wayne, NE; a sister-in-law Shari Galigan of Albuquerque, NM; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two great-nephews Sawyer Leavitt and Isaiah “Pooter” Ford.
