Ginger Bunkers, age 95 of Remsen, IA passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at her home in Remsen, Iowa.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM Saturday, Aug. 3, 2024 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen, IA with Rev. Timothy Pick officiating, Father Tim Johnson concelebrating and Deacon Doug Heeren assisting. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation with family present will be 4-7 PM. On Friday, there will be a rosary and vigil prayer service at 5 PM at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. Visitation will resume from 9:30-10:15 AM on Saturday at the funeral home. Service will be live-streamed at www.fischfh.com
Ginger was born Dec. 10, 1928 in Le Mars, IA, the daughter of Nicholas H. & Mary (Lauters) Hatz. She was raised and educated in Remsen, graduating from Remsen St. Mary’s High School in 1946. She then attended St. Joseph School of Nursing in Sioux City and graduated in 1949.
On Jan. 18, 1950 she married Louis Bunkers at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen. They made their home in Remsen where they raised their nine children. Louis died Mar. 22, 1996. Ginger worked as an RN at Sacred Heart Hospital (later Floyd Valley Hospital) in Le Mars for 41 years. She retired in 1991 and devoted her time to her grandchildren and helping when needed. She loved baking cookies and sharing them with relatives and friends. She was also excellent at remembering birthdays and holidays. She loved working in her garden and watching the Chicago Cubs.
Ginger was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, church guild and past member of the Catholic Order of Foresters.
She is survived by her nine children, Dave (Janet) Bunkers of Des Moines, IA, Doug (Joy) Bunkers of Lake Arrowhead, CA, Dick (Michele) Bunkers of West Branch, MI, Mary Bunkers of Springdale, AR, Mick (Diane) Bunkers of Remsen, IA, Luanne (Carl) Nigrone of Magnolia, TX, Paul (Jane) Bunkers of Santa Ana, CA, Tim (Jill) Bunkers of Tulsa, OK, Tom (Ann) Bunkers of Le Mars, IA; 26 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild; brother-in-law, Dale Bunkers of Granville, IA; two sisters-in-law, Esther Bunkers and Ellen Hatz both of Remsen, IA; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Louis;. grandson, Louis Paul Bunkers; two brothers, Paul (Carlinda) Hatz, Dick Hatz; sister, Marion (Art) Kellen; Louis’ siblings; Mariana (Sylvester) Kobberman, Armella (Gilbert) Loesche, LeRoy (Ruth) Bunkers, Cletus (Adeline) Bunkers, Vernon Bunkers and Doris (Paul) Kestel; sister-in-law, Mary Bunkers.
Casket bearers will be Dave Bunkers, Doug Bunkers, Dick Bunkers, Mick Bunkers, Paul Bunkers, Tim Bunkers and Tom Bunkers.
Honorary bearers will be Brett Bunkers, Zack Bunkers, Luke Bunkers, Garrett Bunkers, Mitchell Bunkers and Alec Bunkers.
