Marcus, Iowa - Ray K. Hansen, 87, of Marcus, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at Heartland Care Center in Marcus, Iowa. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 27, 2012 at Peace Lutheran Church in Marcus, Iowa. Rev. Don Erickson will officiate. Burial will follow at Marcus Amherst Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 26, 2012 at the Earnest – Johnson Funeral Home in Marcus. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral service on Friday.
Ray Kenneth Hansen was born on July 5, 1924 in Le Mars, Iowa, the son of Charlie and Lillian (Hinspeter) Hansen. He was raised in the Granville, Iowa area where he attended country school. He later graduated from Le Mars Central High School in 1942. Ray then worked for his uncle as a farm hand and did local trucking.
On June 16, 1956, Ray and Peggy Siegel were united in marriage at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Remsen, Iowa. They made their home on a farm near Marcus, Iowa where they raised their three children. Together Ray and Peggy farmed and fed Angus cattle. Ray was still active in farming until becoming a resident at Heartland Care Center in Marcus in November of 2011.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Peggy Hansen of rural Marcus, Iowa; a daughter, Dr. Linda Kahler and her husband Terry of Marion, Iowa; a son, Chuck Hansen and his wife Karen of Johnston, Iowa; a daughter, Dr. Donna Mertz and her husband Keith of Neosho, Wisconsin; six grandchildren; a sister, Merna Smith of Minneapolis, Minnesota; a sister-in-law, Myrt Hansen of Remsen, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Doug and his wife Gerry Siegel of Shelburne, Nova Scotia; a sister-in-law, Charlotte Siegel of Cherokee, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Murl; brothers-in-law, Howard Smith and Don Siegel.
