Marcus, Iowa – Nancy Hier, 91, of Marcus, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2022, at the Heartland Care Center in Marcus. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2022, at Grace United Methodist Church in Marcus. The Rev. Dr. Travis Stevick will officiate. Burial will be in Marcus Amherst Cemetery in Marcus. Visitation with the family present will be from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at the church. There will be a prayer service at 6:40 p.m. followed with a presentation by D.A.R at 7 p.m.
Nancy Clare Heline was born on May 20, 1930, on the Greenwood Farm near Marcus, Iowa, the daughter of Oscar E. and Mable M. (Magee) Heline. Following high school, Nancy attended Iowa State College in Ames Iowa where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Operations in 1952. In March of 1952, Nancy married Thomas Hissem on the Greenwood Farm. They made their home initially at Long Beach, California.
Nancy furthered her education by attending Westmar College in Le Mars, Iowa. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Education in 1962. She taught school in Burlington and Castle Rock, Colorado. On August 31, 1980, Nancy married Robert Hier in Sedalia, Colorado. She retired from teaching in 1980.
Nancy was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Marcus, Iowa. She belonged to P.E.O. and D.A.R. in Marcus.
Grateful to have shared her life are her sons, William D. “Bill” and Deborah Hissem of Neenah, WI and John T. and Rebecca Hissem of Castle Rock, CO; six grandchildren, Matt, Becky, Paul, David, Anna and Jessica; seven great-grandchildren, Logan, Zachary, Ethan, Amelia Rose, Henry, Liam, Caleb; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Hier; a sister, Halcyon Botkin; and brothers, Carl W. Heline and John P. Heline.
