Bonita Mae Anderson was born at home in Rock Township, Cherokee County, Iowa on August 15,1932. Her parents were Jesse Walker and Ida Mae (Crippen) Anderson. She joined her two older brothers to complete their family. The family lived and worked on farms north of Quimby, Iowa and eventually moved to town when she was in the second grade. They lived across the street from Quimby Consolidated School where she would graduate as Salutatorian of her class. She married her high school sweetheart, Wilfred Husman, on April 8, 1950. This marriage was blessed with 6 children in 8 years.
Bonnie and Willie moved to Marcus, Iowa in 1954 and purchased the Crocker house on the east side of town. She took great pride in having her children's Saturday night baths taken, hair done, shoes shined, and clothes ready for Sunday morning church. Bonnie was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. She served in Ladies Aid, Braille Ministries and various committees. She also enjoyed The Red Hat's Society, quilting groups, bowling leagues, golf leagues, and attending school events. She often joked about her “Investment and Intellectual Study Group.” The investment group never made any money, but it kept her up to date on all the local “information”. She proudly served as a board member and volunteer for the Marcus Historical Center for many years.
Bonnie and Willie owned and operated the Marcus Bowl for 40 years. She had fond memories of customers who became lifelong friends. She was so proud of her Saturday morning youth bowlers. This group gave her another generation of friendships to enjoy. She also enjoyed the many trips taken with her husband of 72 years. She made special memory scrapbooks for each of her children. She wrote poems that she read at many family bridal showers. Her interest in genealogy was done the “old fashioned way”, by personal interviews and family record searches. Her computer and the internet was welcomed and allowed her to broaden her family tree which can be traced to the early Jamestown, Virginia settlements, and three ancestors who arrived on the Mayflower.
She is survived by her husband, Wilfred of Marcus, IA; 6 children, Dennis (Pam) Husman of Cherokee, IA, Gloria (Tony) D'Ottavio of Sioux City, IA, Gary (Janice) Husman of Marcus, IA, Karen (Gary) Rupp, Marcus, IA, Pam (Lynn) Mork of Berlin, WI, Mike Husman of Yankton, SD; 18 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 2 nephews, Steven and Patrick Anderson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Dustin Engelbrecht; daughter-in-law, Jackie (Pick) Husman; brothers, Harold “Andy” and James Anderson; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy (Stoeber) Anderson.
