James “Jim” Wurth, 82 of Remsen, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 11, 2021 at Orange City Area Health System in Orange City, IA.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2021 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen, IA with Father Timothy Pick officiating, Father Terry Roder concelebrating and Deacon Doug Heeren assisting. Burial will follow at the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen. Graveside military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 3328 and American Legion Post 220 of Remsen. Visitation with family present will be 4-7 p.m. Monday, there will be a Catholic Order of Foresters rosary and vigil prayer service at 5 p.m. all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. Visitation will resume 1 hour prior to the funeral on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Jim was born March 26, 1939 in LeMars, IA the son of Bernie & Miranda (Krier) Wurth. He was raised near Remsen and received his education at Remsen St. Mary’s Catholic School, graduating in 1957. He then entered the Army National Guard and served from 1957-1958.
On Dec. 30, 1964 he married Mary Ellen Ruba at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen. The couple made their home on a farm near Remsen. Jim farmed all his life, but over the years also worked at Schaffs Hardware and Evans Repair both in Remsen.
Jim was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Catholic Order of Foresters for 77 years, Remsen Lions Club and the Pioneer Machinery Club. He loved farming and his antique tractors. He also loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. Jim enjoyed a fine bourbon, a good steak and listening to polka music.
Survivors include, his wife Mary Ellen of Remsen, IA; three children, Theresa (Al) Lampe of Medina, MN, Tony (Amy) Wurth of Remsen, IA, Tammy (Mark) Galles of Remsen, IA; his grandchildren, Brynn, Aidan & Avery Lampe, Chloe & Brady Wurth, Will & Tori Galles; one brother, Richard (Janice) Wurth of Remsen, IA; three sisters, Sally Ortmann of Gilbert, AZ, Dorie Wurth of Britt, IA and Rose (Dale) Nielsen of Britt, IA; one sister-in-law, Patricia Wurth of Sioux City, IA; numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernie & Miranda Wurth; his in-laws, Irvin & Ethel Ruba; two brothers, Bob & Tom Wurth; one brother-in-law, Bob Ortmann.
Casket bearers will be Will Galles, Aidan Lampe, Brady Wurth, Steve Krier, Mason Boyle & Dr. David Wurth.
Honorary bearers will be member of the Catholic Order of Foresters.
