Joanne Catherine Pohlen, Age 72 of Hospers, Iowa passed away Monday, January 6, 2020 at Orange City Area Health Center.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hospers, with Father Daniel Greving officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Anthony Cemetery in Hospers. Visitation with family present will be 4-7 p.m. Friday. There will be a rosary and a vigil prayer service all at 5 p.m. at the church. Joanne was born on September 16, 1947 at Le Mars, IA, the daughter of Clarence & Catherine (Reichle) Pohlen.
Joanne was raised at Hospers, Iowa. She received her education from St. Anthony’s School until 8th grade and graduated from Spalding High School in 1966.
She worked as a housekeeper for St. Anthony’s for several parish priest. Joanne also cared for her parents until their deaths.
Joanne was a lifelong member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and was an active member of St. Anthony’s Guild.
Joanne’s interest include being with her family. She loved to play games and especially cards. She put many puzzles together and sometimes she had help from her nieces and nephews. She enjoyed baking and always had an assortment of cookies and bars on hand to serve her guests.
Survivors include her brothers and sisters; Mary (Duane “Mick”) Konz of Hospers, Bob (Mary) Pohlen of Tracy, MN, Ruth (Jerry) Funk of Red Oak, IA, Jeanne (Wayne) Krogman of Sibley, IA, Jim (Kathy) Pohlen, Dan (Peggy) Pohlen and Joe (Lori) Pohlen all of Hospers. Many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Catherine Pohlen; Nephew Michael Pohlen, Niece Heather Krogman.
Casket bearers will be Matthew Konz, Mike Konz, Chad Krogman, Chris Pohlen, Eric Pohlen, Aaron Pohlen, Jeremy Funk and Joey Pohlen.
