John Charles Mai, age 62, of Le Mars, IA passed away January 16, 2021 at MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center in Sioux City, IA, after a long battle with cancer.
Visitation with family present will be 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen, IA. There will be a vigil prayer service at 5 p.m with Father William McCarthy officiating. Masks and social distancing guidelines must be followed. Following the visitation the family asks friends and family to join them at Connors Lounge for a time of remembrance. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen, IA. Thursday at 1:30 p.m.
John was born September 28, 1958 to Bob & Mary (Cronin) Mai in Le Mars. He was raised in rural Remsen. He attended Remsen Union and Remsen St. Mary’s Catholic Schools.
He was united in marriage to Sherrie Moritz in 2003 in LeMars, IA. The couple made their home in Struble, Iowa on a farm where they raised their family.
John worked various construction jobs but his love was farming. He enjoyed the outdoors, family and friends and of course beating everyone at pool.
Survivors include his wife, Sherrie Mai of Le Mars, IA; 3 children, Mitzi (Ryan) Rozeboom and their children Bryce and Ashlynn of Centerville,SD, Daniel Mai and his daughter Ellie of Sioux City ,IA, and Robert (Bre) Mai of Le Mars, IA. His siblings, Jim (Donna) Mai of Le Mars, IA, Carol (Bob) Hardy of Harrisburg, SD, Mary Mai (Tom Gengler) of Elk Point, SD, & Judy (Randy) Aldrich of Sioux Falls, SD, sisters-in-law Kathy Mai of Aberdeen, SD, and Patricia Mai of Alton ,IA; numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his parents Bob & Mary Mai, and brothers Tom and Paul Mai.
