Jolene M. Kotschwar

Jolene Marie Kotschwar, age 67 of Fremont, NE, passed Saturday, Feb. 15, 2025 in Lincoln, NE.

Private family funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, 2025 at Christ Lutheran Church LCMS in Remsen with Pastor Matt Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the Remsen Community Cemetery. Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen, IA. www.fischfh.com.

Jolene was born Jan. 21, 1958 the daughter of Robert and Joan (Klingbeil) Powell in Sioux City, IA. She was raised on the family farm approximately 8 miles north of Pierson, IA and just south of Marcus. She received her education from Marcus High School graduating in 1976. She then attended and graduated from St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Sioux City before going on to complete her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She later attended the University of Texas in Austin where she graduated with her Master of Science in Nursing. Jolene has a strong passion for nursing and caretaking in general. Her career focused on all aspects of patient care, with an emphasis on critical care, as well as educating future nurses. After decades of teaching, patient care was so important to Jolene that she chose to return to it before retirement, ending her career as a bedside nurse in the hospital setting at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha, NE.

Jolene’s deep faith as a Lutheran was very important to her. She loved gardening, cooking, baking and spending time with her grandson Max. Her passion for caretaking extended to animals and any living creature in need.

Survivors include her daughter, Joy Powell of Omaha, NE; her son, Ray Kotschwar of Lincoln, NE; grandson, Max Kotschwar; her parents, Robert & Joan Powell of Remsen, IA; three brothers, Steve (Kay) Powell of Le Mars, IA, Arnold (Kim) Powell of Cape Coral, FL, Gary (Laurie) Powell of South Sioux City, NE.

She was preceded by her son, Ross Kotschwar.

Casket bearers will be Ray Kotschwar, Steve Powell, Arnold Powell and Gary Powell.
