Ellen Frances Klaschen, 94, of Yankton, South Dakota, formerly of Marcus, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2022, at Avera Sister James Nursing Home in Yankton. A family graveside service will take place at a later date at Holy Name Cemetery in Marcus, Iowa.
Ellen Frances Klaschen was born on July 29, 1928, in Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Catherine (Rodesch) Roling. She attended school in Remsen, Iowa, graduating from Remsen St. Mary’s Catholic High School.
On October 29, 1947, Ellen and Walter Klaschen were united in marriage at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen. They made their home in Wolsey, South Dakota and later moved to Marcus, Iowa.
Ellen was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus, Iowa and St. Ann’s Guild. She was an avid reader, raised numerous houseplants and enjoyed the outdoors.
Ellen will be lovingly remembered by a daughter and her husband, Nancy and Bob Nitzschke of Yankton, SD, and a son, Rick of Sheldon, IA: 3 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 1 step-grandchild. a sister and her husband, Mary Ann and Tom Boever of Dubuque, IA; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter on January 1, 1998.
