Anna Mae Ladenthin

February 5, 1922 — April 26, 2018

Anna Mae Ladenthin, 96, of Marcus, Iowa passed away on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at Heartland Care Center in Marcus. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 30, 2018 at Peace Lutheran Church in Marcus, Iowa. Rev. Kevin Roop will officiate. Burial with will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, rural Hinton, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 29, 2018 at the Earnest – Johnson Funeral Home in Marcus. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service scheduled at 6:30 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral on Monday.

Anna Mae was born on February 5, 1922, to Walter and Clara (Ludwig) Muecke of Hinton, Iowa. She grew up on a farm east of Hinton where she attended country school then graduated from high school in Le Mars, Iowa in 1940.

Anna Mae married Harold Ladenthin on April 13, 1943, at Trinity Lutheran Church of rural Hinton. Following Harold’s Navy discharge they made their home in Sioux City, Iowa. The family moved to Marcus in 1953 where Harold owned and was a pharmacist for Harold's Drug Store.

Anna Mae was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church in Marcus where she played the organ, was a Sunday School teacher, an active member of the LWML, a volunteer for the Braille ministry, and many more ministries where she was needed. Anna Mae spent many years volunteering at the Marcus Public Library. She loved spending time with her family especially the yearly vacations at Fillenworth Beach Resort in Okoboji. You might have seen Anna Mae around town exercising (before it was the “thing” to do) by walking, riding her bike with her little Chihuahua in the front basket, or at aquasize at the Marcus pool in the summers.

Anna Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, her parents, an infant great granddaughter, Gemma Ladenthin, brother, William Muecke, and a sister, Margaret (Paul) Cramer.

Living to cherish her memory are her children Philip and wife, Alayda Ladenthin of Marcus; Gloria and husband, Mikel Schmillen of Spencer, Iowa; and John and wife Mary Ladenthin of Minnetonka, Minnesota, 9 grandchildren; Krista (Bryan) Dirks of Marcus, Angela (Scott) Mingus of Spencer, IA, Jason (Stephanie) Ladenthin of Liberty, MO, Tricia (Thomas) Greinert of Lenexa, KS, Scot (Colleen) Ladenthin of Cherokee, IA, Amanda Schmillen of Asheville, NC, Nicole Ladenthin of Minnetonka, MN, Josh Ladenthin of Parkinson, TX, Jacob Ladenthin of St. Paul, MN;17 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.
