Johnathan Christopher Lauman was born on August 24, 1966, in Lubbock, Texas, the son of Robert and Karen (Marquis) Lauman. He moved with his family to various Air Force bases in the United Kingdom and the US. Johnathan received his primary education in Dayton, Ohio. In 1978, the family moved to the maternal family farm near Remsen, Iowa. He went to junior high and high school in Marcus, Iowa. Johnathan graduated from Marcus High School in 1984. Following high school, he went to the University of South Dakota and NCC in Sheldon, Iowa, where he studied computer technology. He worked at Gateway Computers where he went from the production line to networking. John was entrepreneurial and owned several businesses throughout his lifetime.
When he was younger he studied martial arts, loved science fiction, movies or literature, and astronomy. He also enjoyed tinkering with cars and it was noted that the farm had a northern windbreak due to the number of old cars he bought. John later married Roxanne Prescott in 2005 and that union brought about two children that he was proud of. It was noted that he and his daughter had a strong connection before she was born. He enjoyed working on vehicles with his son. His sister will remember him for his sense of humor while working and for teaching her to drive a car. His first and only niece, KT, helped coin the phrase “one adult, one child” while he was dating Roxanne.
We will be reminded of his sense of humor whenever a bad joke is given producing a groan, patience when it comes to learning the hard lessons of life and taking care of others. He will also be remembered by his grand pups to whom he was fond of and enjoyed their company.
He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Madalyn Lauman of Sergeant Bluff, IA, and Paul Lauman of Emmetsburg, IA; a sister, Jennifer Lauman Brooks and her husband, John of Pueblo, CO; a niece, Karen Lee of Marcus, IA; aunts and uncles, Linda Martin (Florida), Vana (Chuck) Bris-Bois of North Carolina, Vance Marquis of Arkansas and Virginia (Ron) Cassell of Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Karen Lauman; as well as his maternal and paternal grandparents. He will be missed always by those who loved him.
“There goes my hero.”
