Robert Lauters was born September 19, 1937 on the family farm near Marcus, Iowa, the son of Raymond and Mary (Balster) Lauters and was a graduate of Holy Name High School in Marcus. On February 7, 1959 he married Barbara Kass at Le Mars, Iowa. A Dodge City resident for the past 31 years, moving from Plainview, Nebraska, he was an Area Sales Manager for Vigortone.
He was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe and Knights of Columbus Council 2955 both in Dodge City.
Bob will long be remembered for his friendliness, kind heart and generous spirit. A true champion, he fought the good fight to the end. He spent his final days in the ICU surrounded by his entire family and when a friend asked how the world was treating him he looked around the room and replied from beneath an oxygen mask, “absolutely perfect.” That was Bob, always was one to look on the bright side of things. So bright was his light that not once did he complain despite the severe pain he was in—but rather spent his energy on listening to his grandsons, winking at his pretty granddaughters and smiling at his six grown children recalling favorite childhood tales with a twinkle in his eyes. He loved and cherished his wife Barbara for over 54 years, and with her by his side he took his last breath.
He will be missed for his playful sense of humor, his laughter, his strength, his devotion to his family and friends, his integrity and his way of lighting up any room he walks into.
