Lois Even, 92 years old, of Alton, IA, passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2022 in Omaha, Nebraska
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 14, 2022, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton, with Father Daniel Greving officiating and Deacon Dan Goebel assisting. Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Alton. Visitation with family present will be 4-7 p.m. on Friday, there will be a parish rosary and vigil prayer service at 5 p.m. all at the church. Visitation will resume one hour before the service on Saturday at the church. Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
Lois Even was born on March 24, 1930, in Marcus, Iowa, the daughter of Amos and Jane Agnes (Collins) Weber. She was raised on a farm outside of Marcus where she graduated from Holy Name High School in Marcus in 1947. She became a registered nurse after graduating from the Saint Joseph Mercy School of Nursing in September 1951.
On Nov. 3, 1951, she married Joseph T. (“Jay”) Even, Jr. at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus, Iowa. They made their home in Alton, where Lois worked as a registered nurse for nearly two decades at hospitals in Le Mars and Orange City. She was also one of the founding members of the regional hospice program and worked as a volunteer for nearly 50 years. When it was her time, Lois knew hospice care was the right decision.
Lois was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Sioux Golf and Country Club, and the Lois Club. She enjoyed golfing, bridge, fishing, and socializing with her many friends. Lois also enjoyed many winters in Lake Havasu, Arizona where she and her husband Jay met many new friends.
Survivors include two children and their spouses, Joe and Lynn Even of Omaha, Nebraska; Bill and Monna Even of Oxford, Ohio; six grandchildren, Aaron and Melissa Boone of Sheldon, Iowa; Jason Boone of Pukalani, Hawaii; LuAnne and Nathan Stokes of Omaha, Nebraska; Matt and Amanda Even of Aurora, Colorado; Ben and Alyssa Even of Huntersville, NC; and Joe Even of Oxford, OH. Great grandchildren include Emma, Alli and Jaxx Boone, Charlotte and Stevie Stokes, and Brooke Even; Sister- and brother-in-law Carol and Jeff Halstrom; and over 100 nieces and nephews of different generations.
In addition to her parents, Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Jay Even; daughter Jean and her spouse, Darlo Boone; four siblings and their spouses: Joseph and Florentine Weber; Tom Weber; Mary and Joseph Augustine; and Rita and Frances Delperdang; Jay’s brothers and spouses, Mike and Jane Even; Jim and Carol Even; Tom and Dorothy Even; and Jay’s sister, Mary Lois Even.
Casket bearers will be Matty Even, LuAnne Stokes, Ben Even, Joe Even, Aaron Boone and Matt Even.
