Lorraine Margaret Haupert, 83, died at the Holy Spirit Retirement Home in Sioux City, Iowa, on Friday, August 22, 2014.
Funeral services will be held at Holy Spirit Retirement Home, 1701 West 125th St., Sioux City, IA on Wednesday, August 27, 2014, at 10:30 AM. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Alton, IA following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorials be sent to Holy Spirit Retirement Home.
Lorraine was born on April 9, 1931, to Jacob and Hilda (Pottebaum) Haupert of Alton, Iowa. Lorraine spent her early years in Alton, and then moved to the Glenwood State School in Glenwood, Iowa, where she remained until 1955. In 1955, Lorraine moved to the Sioux County Home (Hope Haven Residential Care Facility) in Orange City, Iowa. She remained in Orange City until 2009, when she moved to the Holy Spirit Retirement Home in Sioux City, IA.
Over the years Lorraine enjoyed participating in the Special Olympics with her twin sister, Elaine. Both won numerous ribbons and medals in multiple events. Elaine died on October 21, 2012.
Lorraine is survived by three sisters, Ardelle (Frank) Colabello of Omaha, NE; Judy (Ron) Green of Aurora, CO; Jeanne (David) Chevalier of Webster, MN; three brothers, Dennis (Dianne) Haupert of Soddy Daisy, TN; Dale (Shirley) Haupert of Atlantic, IA; and Jerry (Ruth) of Sioux City, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
