Darlene Means, 96, of Marcus, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at the Heartland Care Center in Marcus. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus. Father Timothy Pick will celebrate Mass. Burial will follow at Holy Name Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 12, 2022, at the church.
Helen Darlene Means was born at home on July 25, 1926, on the family farm just outside of Marcus to Louis and Mary (Thiel) Means. She was the second oldest of six children and received her education from Holy Name Catholic School. Darlene grew up and remained living on the farm with family until she and her mother moved into Marcus in 1950. In 1968 Darlene moved to Le Mars, Iowa to live with an uncle who needed help caring for his ailing wife. Five years later, she returned to Marcus. In January 1987, South Side Apartments became her home until she entered Heartland Care Center in August of 2017.
Darlene enjoyed scrapbooking, embroidering, word searches and coloring. She was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and St. Ann’s Guild.
Darlene is survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Mary Means; infant sister Lorna Mae on June 12, 1925; infant brother Marion on September 17, 1941; brothers Clyde and Harold (Pete), sister Norma; in-laws, Francis Cronin, Norma (Schiltz) Means, Hazel (Gloshen-Chase) Means; nephews, Doug Cronin and Rory Means and niece Julia Terry.
