Judy Kay Hohbach was born on September 7, 1956, in Cherokee, Iowa, the daughter of Lawrence and Bernice (Ahlgren) Hohbach. She graduated from Marcus High School in 1974. On October 11, 1975, Judy and Duane Means were united in marriage at Faith Lutheran Church in Marcus, Iowa. They lived in Cherokee for a year prior to settling in Marcus.
Over the years, along with raising her family, Judy found fulfillment in several careers, including that as a medical transcriptionist at Floyd Valley after completing school to earn her degree from Western Iowa Tech. But for the past 21 years, she found great joy working with her friends at United Bank of Iowa in Marcus.
Judy was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Marcus and enjoyed volunteering her time whenever she was needed. She enjoyed spending time with (and talking about) her grandchildren, crafting beautiful quilts for loved ones, gardening, reading, cooking, traveling, and finding a good movie to watch. She belonged to golf league, a quilting group, church groups, and the sewing committee at the Marcus fair.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Jessica Means-Waldschmitt of Remsen, IA and Tony Means and his wife, Cassie, of Hudson, IA; five grandchildren, Alyssa Denney, Sophie Waldschmitt, Sullivan, Finleigh and Skylar Means; one great-grandchild, Hailey Denney; a sister, Marcia Boyle of Rock Rapids, IA; a brother, Dennis Hohbach and his wife, Char of rural Marcus, IA; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Duane; parents Lawrence and Bernice Hohbach; grandparents, Adam and Clara Hohbach and Gust and Elise Ahlgren; a brother-in-law, Dan Boyle; and an uncle, Kenneth Ahlgren.
A friend to anyone she met, Judy leaves behind a legacy of kindness, caring, and love. Her ever-present smile, and truly kind soul will be missed.
