Melvin J. Gengler, 57 years old, of Remsen, IA died Thursday, March 28, 2013 at his home in Remsen, IA. 
        Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy and Deacon Rick Roder officiating.  Burial will be in the St. Catherine’s Catholic Cemetery in Oyens.  Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. on Monday, April 1, 2013.  There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.  Following the burial there will be a luncheon at the city hall gym.
        Melvin was born on Feb. 12, 1956, at LeMars, IA the son of Aloysius and Shirley (Theisen) Gengler.  He was raised in the Oyens area and received his education there until the 7th grade.  His education from 8th grade until graduation from high school in 1975 was received at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Remsen.  He began working part time at the Oyens Co-Op while he was in high school and became employed full time then after his graduation.  He then worked at Harkers Wholesale Meat in Orange City and later transferred to their LeMars plant.  From there he worked at Well’s Dairy in LeMars for 9 years.  He then worked Tyson Food in Cherokee for 6 years and had worked at Blue Diamond Tank and Truck Wash in LeMars for the last 7 years.e then farmed
        On Dec. 10, 1977 he married Trina Borchers at LeMars.  They made their home at Oyens.  To that union was born a son, Ryan.
        On June 3, 1983 he married Kimberly Dreckman at St. James Catholic Church in LeMars.  They made their home in the Oyens area.  To that union were born three sons, Aaron, Travis and Cameron.  They divorced in 1998.  Melvin moved to Remsen in the early 1990’s.
        Melvin was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. 
        Survivors include: his four sons, Ryan of Merrill, Aaron, Travis and Cameron all of Remsen;  five grandchildren, Austin, Ethan, Caiden, Damien and Hurley; his 12 brothers and sisters, Paul (Brenda) Gengler of LeMars, Judy (Jerry) Keffeler of Remsen, Wayne (Eileen) Gengler of Spencer, IA, Nancy (Mark) Ellensohn of LeMars, Lori (Bob) Schlesser of LeMars, Peggy (Glen) Steichen of Remsen, Bonnie (Ken) Ahlers of Remsen, Cindy (Tim) Myers of Dakota City, IA, Vicki (Brad) Ufken of LeMars, Glen Gengler of Remsen, Pam Siders and fiancé Rich Magnuson of Sioux City, IA, Kevin (Heidi) Gengler of LeMars; Numerous nieces and nephews.
        Preceded in death by his parents.
        Casket Bearers will be, Drew Gengler, Neil Ellensohn, David Keffeler, Kyle Schlesser, Blake and Brandon Myers.
        Honorary Bearers will be, Shane Konz, John Mai, Rick and Mike Weiler.
