Leola Meyer

Leola L. Meyer, 90, of Marcus passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Heartland Care Center in Marcus. Funeral services will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at Peace Lutheran Church in Marcus. Rev. Kevin Roop will officiate. Burial will follow at Prairie View Cemetery in Paullina, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at the Earnest – Johnson Funeral Home in Marcus. The family will be present to greet friends from 5-7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the service on Wednesday.

Leola L. Meyer was born May 11, 1927 on a farm near Germantown, Iowa, the daughter of Bruard and Elfreda (Peters) Straub. She was confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Germantown. Leola graduated from Paullina High School in 1945.

On December 14, 1947, Leola and Vernon Meyer were united in marriage at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Germantown, Iowa. To this union two children were born, David and Laurie. Leola and Vernon farmed northeast of Marcus, Iowa for many years.

Leola was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Marcus. She participated in Ladies’ Aid and taught Sunday School for many years. Leola enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening. She belonged to many card clubs. Leola and Vernon took many bus tours in their younger years.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 69 years, Vernon of Paullina, IA; a son David and his wife, Janet of Granville, IA; three grandchildren, Mike (Rebecca) Meyer, Janelle (Chad) Lourens, Brian (Rachael) Tuttle; four great-grandchildren, Colton, MaKenzie, Christopher and Amelia.

Preceding in her in death are her parents; a daughter, Laurie on June 1, 2011; a sister, Fern Schorg.
