Gerald J. “Jerry” Meylor, 86, of Marcus, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, January 03, 2013, at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 7, 2013, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus. Father Daniel C. Guenther will celebrate Mass. Burial will follow at Holy Name Catholic Cemetery. F.I. Goodburn Post #517 of the American Legion will provide Military Honors. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 6, 2013, at Holy Name Catholic Church, with family present from 4-8 p.m. A Rosary Service will take place at 4:00 p.m. with a Scriptural Prayer Service scheduled at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to Mass on Monday.

Jerry was born on August 8, 1926, in Marcus, Iowa, the son of Edward and Amanda (Berendes) Meylor. Before he graduated from Holy Name High School in 1945, he was drafted into the United States Navy and served on the USS Rendova. He earned his honorable discharge on July 19, 1946.

Following WWII, Jerry returned to Marcus to farm with his father. On June 29, 1949, Jerry and Irene C. Fischer were united in marriage at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Granville, Iowa. Together they farmed in the Maryhill area until moving to a farm north of Marcus. In 1993, they moved into town. During his "retirement years," Jerry worked at the Marcus Golf Course and was a courier for First Trust & Savings.

Jerry was an active member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus. He sang in the choir, was a lay minister, taught CCD and belonged to the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the F.I. Goodburn Post #517 of the American Legion in Marcus. Also active in the Marcus community, he served as past president of the Marcus School Board and the Marcus Fair Board. He was elected to the Farmer's Coop Oil Board of Directors and volunteered as and ASC Committee Man. He was a founding and active member of the Marcus Historical Society. He was an avid card player, loved to tinker in his shop, paint and draw, and watch his children and grandchildren play sports.

He will be lovingly remembered by his seven children, Jean and her husband Alan Peterson of Ft. Pierre, SD; Mary and her husband Ken Haselhoff of Quimby, IA; Julia and her husband Bill Simpson of East Providence, RI; Nancy and her husband Larry Sinnwell of West Des Moines, IA; Ken and his wife Chris of Sioux Falls, SD; Michael Meylor of Milford, IA; and Robert and his wife Sandra of Sioux Falls, SD. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren and their spouses, Adam and Denise Peterson, Kristine (Haselhoff) and Brian Granville, Sharon Haselhoff, Janet (Haselhoff) and Geoff Gibbons, Brian and Andrea Haselhoff, Mallory (Simpson) and Seth Breitmaier, Emily Simpson and fiancé Nate Piazza, Laura Sinnwell and fiancé Ben Karney and Tim Sinnwell, Shelbie and Coltin Meylor, Dustin Weise, Vanessa (Johnson) and Tom Jorgensen, Nikki (Johnson) and Santos Beal, Matthew, Madalyn, and Kaitlyn Meylor, Mitchell, Eddie and Reilly Meylor; great-grandchildren Joshua Granville; Clare, Ella and William Haselhoff; John, Jalen and Joshua Weise; Dylan, Jillian and Natalie Jorgensen; Nevaeh, Ashton and Jackson Beal; Dakota Smith and Bela and Ari Cournoyer; and a sister, Bernadette Eagle of Massapequa, NY; brothers and their wives, Tom and Donice Meylor of Longmont, CO; Stanley and Lorretta Meylor of Citrus Heights, CA; and Dan Meylor of Westminster, CA; a brother-in-law and wife Robert and Lorraine Fischer and sister-in-law Lorraine Becker, both of Granville; three step-sisters-in-law Catherine Pohlen of Hospers; Bertie Full of Canby, Minn; and Inez Reichle of Orange City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Irene on April 25, 2009; a son, Eddie; grandson Eric Peterson; a daughter-in-law Cindy Meylor; a sister-in-law Eileen Meylor; a sister-in-law Sandy Meylor; and a brother-in-law, Bill Eagle.
