Michael David Ahlers, 29 years old, of Remsen, IA, died Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, near Kingsley, IA as a result of injuries suffered in a car accident.
Michael was born April 14, 1980 in Sioux City, IA, the son of David & Lynn (Langel) Ahlers. He was raised in Remsen & baptized at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen. He attended Remsen-Union Community School graduating in 1999. Michael attended Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg, IA starting in Nov 1999 until he graduated in May 2001 with a degree in Diesel Mechanics. During his college years, Michael worked part-time for Spencer International as a Farm Equipment Tech. Upon graduation, he worked full time for Spencer International until Sept. 2002. He then moved back to Remsen & started working for Vern Anderson Equipment in LeMars, IA from Oct. 2002 until Nov. 2006. Michael transferred to Titan Machinery in Kingsley as the Shop Foreman from Nov. 2006 until current. Michael received many awards & certificates for his trade throughout the years.
In June of 2007 Michael became the proud owner of an acreage north of Remsen. He worked long hours making his acreage a home. He enjoyed being with family & friends; boating at Okoboji & Round Lake; taking trips down Apple River; attending car shows; camping; playing mud volleyball; helping farmers; working on his ’67 Impala; working with his dad & uncles on various projects on the farm. Michael was the “Go-To-Guy” who enjoyed everything.
Michael was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church & Catholic Order of Foresters.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen. Friends may call anytime after 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009. There will be a rosary at 5:00 p.m., a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m. followed by a Catholic Order of Foresters rosary, all at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen. Fisch Funeral Home & Monument of Remsen is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include: His parents, Dave & Lynn (Langel) Ahlers of Remsen; sister Erin Pick & her husband, Chris, of LeMars, IA; sister Nicole Ahlers & her special friend, John Snyder, of Wayne, NE; brother Jeremy Ahlers of Remsen; Paternal grandparents, Clarence & Norma Ahlers of Remsen; aunts & uncles, Fred & Faye Ahlers, Danny Ahlers, Margaret Mary Tucker, Christine & Scott Nielsen, Barb & Dennis Henrich, Phil & Teryl Ahlers, Gary & Cindy Langel, Tom & Kathy Langel, Sue & Merle Huls, Bruce & Kim Langel; many close cousins, great aunts & great uncles.
Preceded by: his maternal grandparents Vic & Toots Langel & cousin Todd Huls.
Casket bearers will be Tom Huls, Kyle Wurth, Curt Christoffel, Jake Walgenbach, Greg Wurth, Mark Mohning, Jeff Felts, Tim Britt, Neal Wurth, and Dusty Heitmann. Honorary Bearers will be Doug Tucker, Tyler Huls, Jesse Anthony, Titan Machinery employees & the Kingsley Crowd.
