Ruth E. Oliver, 91, of Sioux City, Iowa passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 in Sioux City, Iowa. A family graveside service will take place at Liberty Township Cemetery, rural Meriden, Iowa.
Ruth Ethel Oliver was born on July 13, 1923, in Verdi, Minnesota to Otto A. and Alma (Popenhagen) Carlson. She attended school in Cherokee County, Iowa. After her education, Ruth worked as a psychiatric aid at the mental health institute in Cherokee.
Ruth and Henry C. Hansen were united in marriage on August 22, 1942, in Dakota City, Nebraska. Seven children were born to this union. Ruth later married Floyd W. Oliver on May 2, 1958, in Correctionville, Iowa. Floyd passed away on May 11, 1975. She then married Charles L. Oliver on June 21, 1978, in Des Moines, Iowa. They lived in Des Moines until Charlie passed away on April 14, 1990. Ruth returned to the area and lived in Sioux City, Iowa.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Dale Hansen of Sioux City, IA, Linda Hansen of Onawa, IA and Denise VandenHull and her husband Lyle of Onawa, IA; grandchildren, Larry (Carrie) Hansen, Michael (Megan Chausse) Hansen, Melissa (Christopher Davis) Hill and Michelle (Adam) Nygaard; many great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild on the way; brothers and sisters, Gladys Meyer of Tempe, AZ, Charlene and Jerry Letsche of Marcus, IA, Stanley Carlson of Bend, OR, and Rev. Lester Carlson of Oliver, B.C. Canada.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Floyd and Charles; sons, Larry, Kirby and Leon; a granddaughter, Ruthie; brothers, Leland, Norman, Clifford; a sister and her husband Floreine and Ray Kass; sisters-in-law, Bernice Carlson and Doris Carlson; and a brother-in-law, Gene Meyer.
Memorials in Ruth’s name may be directed to the funeral home.
