Dennis Neal Pearson, 70, of rural Marcus, Iowa passed away on Thursday, November 18, 2021, at his home. A Celebration of Life Service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 28, 2021, at the Earnest – Johnson Funeral Home in Marcus. Rev. Don Meyer will officiate. Visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
Dennis Neal Pearson was born on November 15, 1951, in Le Mars, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Marguerite (Viken) Pearson. He was Baptized on February 24, 1952, and Confirmed on June 6, 1965, at Faith Lutheran Church in Marcus, Iowa. He attended Marcus Community Schools, graduating in 1969. Following high school, Dennis was united in marriage to Gayle Addy on October 2, 1971. To this union was born a son, John.
Denny began working at Sand Seed Service after high school and then worked for Horstman Trucking. He also became an independent trucker and farmed for a few years. Denny then worked at Top Line Feed and Supply in Germantown, Iowa for many years before he took a position with GCC Concrete in Le Mars and Cherokee. During his years with GCC, he was a survivor of a train accident that struck his truck.
Growing up, Denny had a passion for football and showing 4-H calves at local fairs and Ak-sar-ben. He played slow pitch softball for the Marcus Merchants for several years and was a devout Nebraska football fan. Denny also loved riding horses and learned to team rope. He started the Rafter D Roping Arena and made several trail rides to the Black Hills. Denny lived all his life in the Marcus area, including on the home farm. He was extremely proud of his grandchildren, Cody and Ashley.
Grateful to have shared his life is his son, John Pearson of Des Moines, IA; grandchildren, Cody and Ashley Pearson; his siblings, Clarence (Sue) Pearson, Jr. of Marcus, IA, Jim (Betty) Pearson of Marcus, IA, Bev (Steve) Schomaker of Cedar Falls, IA and Jan (Leon) Puhrmann of Paullina, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Trish Pearson; and a nephew, Brad Eckhoff.
