Peter Lawrence Stoll, age 84 of Alton, IA passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at the Prairie Ridge Care Center in Orange City, IA.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton, Iowa with Rev. Daniel Greving officiating, Rev. Mark Stoll concelebrating and Deacon Dan Goebel assisting. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Alton, Iowa. Visitation with family present will be 4-6:30 p.m. on Monday, there will be a vigil prayer service at 5 p.m. followed by a rosary all at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. Visitation will resume from 9:30-10:15 a.m. on Tuesday at the church. Services have been entrusted to the Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
Pete was born on May 26th, 1939 to Louis and Petronella (Beckmann) Stoll of Hospers, IA. He was raised in Hospers and attended St. Mary's Academy in Alton graduating in 1957.
On Valentine's Day, February 14th, 1961 he married his high school sweetheart, Betty Hoefer at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton. They lived at Hospers for 2 1/2 years and then moved to a farm east of Alton where they remained until they moved into Alton in 2006.
Peter loved nothing more than farming with his sons and grandson until his stroke in 2015.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, member of the choir for many years, as well as being a eucharistic minister. He was on the St. Mary's Church Board and a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters.
He enjoyed many vacations with family and friends especially to Branson, Lake Okoboji and Hawaii. His hobbies included going to old time dances, plays, collecting John Deere precision models, and attending sporting events for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Pete and Betty played golf, went bowling, and loved to play cards.
Left to cherish his memory include his wife Betty of 62 years; his 3 children, Robert (Lori) Stoll of Alton, IA, Dan (Betsy) Stoll of Orange City, IA and Julie (Steve) Ney of Primghar, IA; 7 grandchildren, Greg Stoll of Olathe, KS, Amanda (Jordan) Christoffel of Granville, IA, Amy (Alex) Jungers of Alton, IA, Ryan (Brooke) Stoll of Alton, IA, Ben (Jericho) Ney of Mankato, MN, Matison (Cody) Mothershead of Glenwood, IA and Jake (Ali) Ney of Des Moines, IA; 17 great-grandchildren; his brother, Leo (Donna) Stoll of Hospers, IA, his sister-in-law, Helen Stoll of Hospers, IA, and his brother Vincent Stoll of Granville, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Betty's parents, his sister Regina (Arnold) Portz; brother, Norbert Stoll; sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Stoll.
Casket bearers will be Ben Ney, Greg Stoll, Jake Ney, Ryan Stoll, Duane Stoll and Tom Stoll.
