Phyllis Marlene Jungers, age 84, Hospers, IA, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2025, surrounded by family at Fieldcrest in Sheldon. She fought a courageous battle with Sjogren’s and congestive heart failure.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 26, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hospers, IA. Burial will follow at the St. Anthony cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, there will be a rosary and vigil prayer service at 5 p.m., at the church. Visitation will resume 9:30-10:15 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen www.fischfh.com
Phyllis Marlene Niichel was born December 11, 1940, in Sibley, IA the daughter of Peter and Olivia (Langenhorst) Niichel. She lived the first 12 years of her childhood in Ashton Iowa. In 1952 her family moved to Granville, IA, where she attended St. Joseph School, graduating in 1959.
Phyllis married Daniel Jungers on Jan. 2, 1960, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville, IA. They were blessed with 5 children, 2 sons and 3 daughters, David, Lisa, Lori, Linda, and Randy. The couple moved to Cedar Falls, IA for several years before returning to the family farm east of Hospers, Iowa for over 55 years. The couple recently celebrated 65 years of marriage.
She was an active member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hospers, IA.
She worked as a waitress at the Blackhawk Hotel in Cedar Falls, IA, seamstress at Alfs mfg, and managed the fabric department at Ben Franklin. Her most rewarding job was being a mother and helping with the farm operations. She was a very good cook and baker. She enjoyed her flowers, gardening, sewing, traveling and spending time outside in the fresh air. She loved any chance to spend time with her children, grand children, and great grandchildren. Her door was always open and she was a good listener.
Survivors include her husband Daniel Jungers of Hospers, IA, Their 5 children; David and Mary Ann Jungers of Sibley, IA, Lisa and Dean Christoffel of LeMars, IA, Lori and Phillip Warnke of Sheldon, IA, Linda and Bret Warnke of Ida Grove, IA, and Randy Jungers of Des Moines, IA; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren (with one on the way); two sisters Maxine (Merlin) Theis and Donna (Ron) Delperdang; brother-in-law, Arnold (Roberta) Jungers; sisters-in-law, Ellen Vortherms and Marlene Jungers; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded by her parents, Peter and Olivia Niichel; parents-in-law, William & Petronella (Stapenhorst) Jungers; two sisters-in-law, Sr. Margaret Jungers OSF, Sr. Theresa Jungers OSF; two brothers-in-law Bernard Jungers and Sylvester Vortherms.
Casket Bearers will be her grandchildren, Derek Christoffel, Devin Christoffel, Ryan Warnke, Alex Warnke, Mitch Christoffel, Nolan Warnke, Ty Warnke, Eric Jungers and Simon Jungers.
Honorary Bearers will be Bethany Warnke Hajj, Rachel Meyer, Amy Warnke, Sarah Jungers, Emily Schneekloth, Willa Jungers.
