Richard Joseph Frericks, age 85 of Remsen, IA, passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at his home in Remsen. Rich was a cancer fighter for 10 years.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM Saturday, June 29, 2024 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen, IA with Rev. Timothy Pick officiating and Deacon Doug Heeren assisting. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation with family present will be 4-7 PM Friday, there will be a Rosary & Vigil Prayer Service at 5 PM at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. Visitation will resume from 9:30-10:15 AM on Saturday at the funeral home. Services have been entrusted to the Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. www.fischfh.com
Rich was born on November 17, 1938 the son of Joseph & Kathryn (Schierholt) Frericks. He received his education from St. Mary's High School and graduated in 1957. Rich then worked at Remsen Bell Enterprise for several years before farming with his dad.
On April 23, 1960 he married Margie Harpenau at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen. The couple made their home near Remsen where they farmed until moving into Remsen in 1998. Throughout his life, Richard was known for his strong work ethic and love for his family.
Rich is survived by his loving wife Margie of Remsen, IA; five children, Rick (Mary Pat) Frericks of Remsen, IA, Randy (Kim) Frericks of Le Mars, IA, Mitzie (Duke) Schamel of Huntington Beach, CA, Fred (Mary) Frericks of Remsen, IA, Peggy Frericks of Le Mars, IA; as well as 11 grandchildren, Danielle Rischling, Katherine (Michael) Collins, Kyle (Ashley) Frericks, Justin (Katie) Frericks, Gina (Adam) Hageman, Trenton Schamel, Dane Schamel, Brittney (Chad) Sposeto, Mitch (Josie) Frericks, Tyler (Shelby) Tracey, Paige (Tanner) Anthony; 18 great-grandchildren, Jordyn, Stella, Leo, Braelee, Remy, Oaklyn, Haisley, Gracynn, Jaelynn, Chase, Nora, Madelyn, Aubrey, Stone, Berkley, Mia, Lane and Palmer.
Rich was a lifetime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed farming, gardening, fishing, boating in Okoboji, happy hour, playing cards with his Pinochle club for 50 years and managing the boys at the farm.
He is also survived by his siblings, Muriel Meneely, Shirley Scholer, and in-laws, Vernell Chapman, Ray (Shirley) Harpenau, Tom (Sharon) Harpenau, Paul Galles, Ione Harpenau.
In addition to his surviving family members, Richard was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Dorothy (Boyd) Hauswirth, Patricia (Dan) Johnson; several beloved in-laws: Bob Meneely, Nick Scholer, Billie Jo Harpenau, LeRoy (Marlene) Harpenau, Don Harpenau, Bob (Jeannette) Harpenau, Doris (Chet) Bergner, Helen Galles, Jerry Chapman.
Richard Joseph Frericks will be remembered for his kind heart and dedication to his family. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work and love that will be cherished by all who knew him.
Casket bearers will be his grandchildren.
