Robert L. Thiel, 72 years old, of Remsen, IA died Thursday, April 3, 2014 after a lengthy illness, at Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy officiating and Deacon Rick Roder assisting. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Remsen. Military Honors will be conducted by American legion Post 220 and V.F.W. Post 3328 of Remsen. Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. on Monday, April 7, 2014. There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m. all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
Bob was born on Aug. 18, 1941, at LeMars, IA the son of John (Jack) & Mary Lucille (Tracey) Thiel. He was raised and educated in Remsen and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1959. After graduation Bob joined the US Navy and served from 1959 until 1962. After his military service he moved back to Remsen and went to work for the family business, Jack Thiel Incorporated.
On April 29, 1967, he married Mary Kay Nacke at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen. Bob worked at the family business until 1969. He then went to work for LeFebure of Cedar Rapids, IA as a bank heavy equipment installer until 2000. He then went to work for Advance Brands in Orange City, IA until his retirement in 2007.
Bob was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, gambling and visiting with friends.
Survivors include: his wife of nearly 47 years, Mary Kay of Remsen; three sons, Bob (Karen) Thiel of Granville, Mike (Monica) Thiel of Everly, IA, Brad (Sara) Thiel of Cedar Rapids, IA; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, John “Buck” Thiel, Bernard “Shorty” Thiel both of Remsen, Daniel “Butch” Thiel of LeMars, IA; mother-in-law, Mert Pick of Remsen, three brothers-in-law, Dale Nacke of South Carolina, Francis Nacke, Mark (Marjean) Nacke both of Remsen; one sister-in-law, Diane (Jack) Jacobs of Clarinda, IA. Several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by, his parents, one brother Marion, two, sisters-in-law, Florence Thiel and Ruth Thiel.
Casket bearers will be Brandon and Evan Thiel, Brian Jacobs, Gerry Nacke, Joe Harpenau, Mick Bunkers.
