Roman Augustus Staab, 91 of Remsen, IA passed away, Friday, Oct. 7, 2016 at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen, IA.
Funeral services will be 9:30 am Monday, Oct. 10, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy officiating and Deacon Rick Roder assisting. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation with family present will be 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016, there will be a parish rosary at 5p.m., and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. followed by a Catholic Order of Foresters rosary all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in
Remsen.
Romie was born on Nov. 16, 1924 to Joseph and Regina (Sudtelgte) Staab in Remsen, IA. He was raised on the farm north of Remsen, IA. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1942
On Nov. 20, 1945 he married Maxine Berendes at Remsen. The couple made their home on a farm north of Remsen. In Jan. 1993 they moved into Town. Maxine passed away May 8, 2010. He moved into Bavarian Meadows in Aug. 2014 and then Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Feb. 2016. Romie continued to farm and feed cattle up until he was 89 years old.
Romie was a member of the St Mary’s Catholic Church and Catholic Order of Foresters. He enjoyed spending time with his family, farming, feeding cattle and playing cards.
Survivors include: his four sons, Jim (Rosie) Staab, Jerry (Barb) Staab both of Remsen, Pat (Claudette) Staab of Marcus, IA, Joe Staab of Remsen; 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, Ann Beck of Remsen, Shirley Berendes of Red Oak, IA; one brother-in-law, Ed Schaaf of Portland, OR; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Brother, Ervin (Fern) Staab, Sisters, Helen (Vitus) Wiederholt, Elizabeth (Emil) Schilmoeller, Doris (Don) Rielly and Rita Mary Schaaf.
Casket bearers will be John Staab, Nick Staab, Mark Staab, Michael Staab, Matt Staab, Jeff Staab and Russell Staab.
Honorary Bearers will be the Catholic Order of Foresters.
