Ronald Joseph Schilmoeller

Ronald Schilmoeller, 79, of Remsen, died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2021 at a Sioux City hospital. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, 2021 at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen, IA with Father William McCarthy officiating.   Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen, IA.  Graveside military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 220 and V.F.W. Post 3328 of Remsen.  Masks are required and social distancing guidelines must be followed, visitation with family present will be 4-7 p.m. with a vigil prayer service at 5 p.m. on Friday at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.  Visitation will resume 1 hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.  If you are unable to attend, the funeral will be live-streamed at www.fischfh.com.

Ron was born July 13, 1941, in Granville, the son of Emil and Elizabeth (Staab) Schilmoeller. 

Ron was raised on the family farm South of Granville, before moving to the farm east of Remsen.  After graduating from St. Mary’s in 1959, Ron entered the National Guard and attended Westmar College.  Ron worked at several places including Sand Seed Services, Coop and Propane of Marcus and Remsen.  On July 24th, 1965, he married Evelyn Krogman and made their home on a farm near Marcus.  While farming, Ron worked several jobs including New Holland and bartending at the Hawkeye.  They moved to the Schilmoeller family farm in 1982 near Remsen.  He worked at Diamond Vogel as a watchman and part time for Mayer Feedlot and M&O Farms. He retired from farming after his wife, Evelyn, died in 2011.  He married Jeanne Weinreich, January 16, 2013.  They enjoyed eating out and spending time with each other and family.   

Ron was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Farm Bureau, Pioneer Tractor Club, Briggs Motor Coffee Group, and several years of bowling and scorekeeping.   He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandkids, restoring his 1950 TO-20 Ferguson, and fishing. 

Survivors include his wife, Jeanne of Remsen; son, Mark (Tammy) Schilmoeller of Remsen; daughters, Donna (Gregg) Heese of Le Mars, Jennifer (Stuart) Rethwisch of Victor, IA; Suzie Schilmoeller and her friend Raymond Meyer of Le Mars; son, Bill (Angie)Schilmoeller of Le Mars; daughter, Carol (Ron) Moore of Sioux City, sons, Dan Schilmoeller and his fiancée Katie Fricke of North Platte, Neb. Dave (Amy) Schilmoeller of LeMars; son-in-law, Regan Feller of Le Mars; step-son, Pat Weinreich and his friend June Pallesen of Remsen; 22 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and 1 arriving in March; 3 brothers, 2 sisters; 1 sister-in-law, numerous in laws and many extended family and friends. 

Ron was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn; his parents, and several other family members.  

Pallbearers will be Riley Schilmoeller, Kory Kroeger, Pat Nilles, Mike Mayer, Enrique Alvarez and Todd Bates. 

Honorary Pallbearers will be his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
