Ruth Jean (Miller) Hohbach, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother entered her eternal rest on Sunday, March 2, 2025 at the age of 89.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Marcus, Iowa with Pastor Kevin Roop officiating. Burial will follow at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, rural Marcus, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument-Earnest-Johnson Chapel in Marcus, Iowa.
Born on July 1, 1935, in rural Paullina, Iowa, to William and Elsie (Puhrmann) Miller, Ruth’s life was a testament to her faith and love for family.
Baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina, Ruth was devoted to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, throughout her life. She graduated from Paullina High School in 1953 and later earned her LPN degree from Western Iowa Tech in 1989. On January 10, 1954, she married Wilmer Hohbach, and for 45 years they farmed ten miles south of Marcus until his passing on January 4,1999.
Ruth dedicated her life to her family as a homemaker and then served her community as a nurse’s aide and LPN in two Cherokee hospitals until her retirement in 1997. A devoted member of Peace Lutheran Church, Marcus, she shared her talents through teaching Sunday school, singing in the choir, quilting, and crafting Braille Bibles. She enjoyed sewing and playing the piano.
Ruth moved to an assisted living facility in Cherokee, Iowa, in 2020, and then to Lincoln, Nebraska, in 2023.
She leaves behind her sons, Bruce (Jeanne) Hohbach and Mark (Sarah) Hohbach; daughter, Jan (Marlen) Chinn; daughter-in-law, Gracia Hohbach; 6 grandsons; 8 granddaughters; 16 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; sisters, Elaine Cates and Charlotte Grefe; brother, Orlyn (Sharon) Miller; and many cherished nieces and nephews. Ruth’s gentle spirit and loving heart will be deeply missed.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Wilmer; sons, Douglas and David; daughter-in-law, Cindy, granddaughter, Debra; parents, William and Elsie; sister, Arlene; brother, Donald; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
