Marcus, Iowa - Daniel J. Schwarz, 56 of Marcus, Iowa passed away suddenly on Sunday, July 15, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus. Father Daniel C. Guenther will celebrate Mass. Burial will follow at the parish cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 18 at the Earnest – Johnson Funeral Home in Marcus. A Rosary Service will take place at 3:00 p.m., the family will be present from 5-8 p.m. with a Scriptural Prayer Service scheduled at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday at the church.
Daniel Joseph Schwarz was born on April 29, 1956 in Le Mars, Iowa, the son of Marvin and Alvira (Vaske) Schwarz. He attended grade school at Gehlen Catholic Schools in Le Mars until the family moved near Marcus in 1968. Dan finished his education at Marcus High School, graduating in 1975. He enlisted in the United States Army Reserve and proudly served his country until earning his Honorable Discharge in 1979.
Following the service, Dan took a position at Sands of Iowa. He later worked for Tom Dorr at Pine Grove Farms. His most recent job was with Tyson Foods in Cherokee until a stroke forced him to retire in 2008.
Dan was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus. He enjoyed refurbishing antique machinery and automobiles, sandblasting and was an avid NASCAR fan.
He will be lovingly remembered by his mother, Alvira Schwarz of Marcus, IA, sisters, Ann and Norman Spooner of Spencer, IA, Mary Koerselman of Maurice, IA, Jean and Ervin Schmidt of Milford, IA and Sara and Scott Paine of College Place, WA; brothers, John and Connie Schwarz of Cherokee, IA, Mike Schwarz of Marcus, IA, Bill and Kim Schwarz of Cleghorn, IA and Leo Schwarz of Marcus, IA; 10 nieces; 7 nephews; 3 great-nieces; 2 great-nephews; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin on June 24, 1997; a brother, Keith Schwarz; a brother-in-law, Byron Koerselman; and a nephew Kelly Schwarz on May 17, 2011.
