Shirley Ann Bass, affectionally known as “Old Grandma” age 87, of Remsen, IA, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2025 in Remsen, IA after a courageous battle with cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 31, 2025 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. Timothy Pick officiating and Deacon Doug Heeren assisting. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation with family present will be from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, parish rosary and vigil prayer service at 5 p.m. all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. www.fischfh.com
Shirley was Born Feb. 11, 1938 in Remsen, IA, the daughter of Arnold & Lorraine (Frank) Steichen. She was raised in Remsen Iowa and attended St. Mary’s Catholic Schools, graduating in 1956.
She married Thomas Rosburg of Kingsley, IA, on June 26, 1956 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen. The union was blessed with two children, Julie Ann, and Thomas Jules. (T.J). Thomas Sr. died on October 24, 1973.
Shirley married Charles Bass from Marcus on March 14, 1975 at Assumption Catholic Church in Merrill, IA. Charles passed away suddenly on February 22, 1981.
Shirley managed the Golden Pheasant Steak House, the family business, for seventeen years. She co-owned and operated The Hiway Tap in Remsen for many years. In her later years she continued to waitress and bartend at various establishments around Remsen.
She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church. She loved spending time with her great-grandchildren, grandchildren and children. She enjoyed socializing with friends and was an avid QVC shopper.
She is survived by her daughter Julie Colling (Russ Delperdang) of Remsen, IA; one son, T.J. Rosburg of North Sioux City, SD; 2 grand-children, Rachel (David) Keffeler and Cody (Dalaney) Colling; great-grandchildren, Brynlee, Boden, Blakley Keffeler, Noa, Martie and Scottie Colling all of Remsen; her siblings, Sandra (Dennis) Phillips of Remsen IA, Gary (Ann) Steichen of Remsen IA, Vickie Peters of Phoenix AZ, Doug (Katie) Steichen of Remsen IA, Dave Steichen of Remsen, IA, Dan “Hank” (Sue) Steichen of Remsen IA; brothers-in-law, Gary McMahon of Omaha, NE and Bob Brady of Dakota Dunes, SD; many nieces, nephews and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her husbands; Thomas and Charles; son-in-law, David Colling; parents, Arnold & Lorraine Steichen; sisters, Mary Ellen Brady, Nancy McMahon, Debra (Steve) Hagey; brother-in-law, David Peters.
