Shirley Marie Schorg

Shirley Marie Schorg, 75 years old, of Remsen, IA passed away from her battle with Alzheimers, Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Good Samaritan Society in LeMars, IA.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 14, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy officiating.  Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Remsen, IA.  Visitation with family present will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday.  There will be a parish rosary and vigil prayer service all at 5  p.m. at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.  Visitation will resume 1 hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.

Shirley was born on Dec. 31, 1942 at LeMars, IA, to Cletus and Ophelia (Rolfes) Vaske. She was raised in Remsen and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1961. 

On Feb. 10, 1962, Shirley married Paul Schorg at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen, IA.  Over the years she worked as a secretary and librarian at Remsen Union Elementary, Remsen Bell, Majeres Foodtown, Post Office in Remsen and most importantly she was a homemaker.    

Shirley was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Church Guild.  She loved following her kids and grandkids in all of their sporting activities.  She loved the Lord, flowers, gardening, cooking, Christmas time, her dog Millie, the Iowa Hawkeyes and mostly raising and caring for her family. She always had freshly baked cookies and sweets for the grandkids when they stopped by and sent frequent care packages to the grandkids that couldn't always be here. She was a caring, thoughtful and loving person.  She was the matriarch and the very heart of the Schorg Family. 

Grateful for having shared her life include: her husband Paul of Remsen; five children, son, Gary (Kirsten) Schorg of Colorado Springs, CO. and their children, Zachary, Gabrielle and Cameron, Kim (Eric) Kohler of Lincoln, NE. and their children, Jonathan (Ashleigh), Travis (Alana) and Benjamin, son, Jeff (Amy) Schorg of Remsen and their children, Lyndsie, Sydney and Brody, son, Terry (Michele) Schorg of Sioux City, IA. and their children, Brooke, Wesley and Paige, son, Rob (Janelle) Schorg of Remsen, and their children, Derrick, Spencer, Carter, Alyssa and Brielle; 2 great-grandchildren, Haileigh and Oaklee Kohler; her siblings, Jerry (Diane) Vaske of Remsen, Dennis (Jan) Vaske of Park Rapids, MN., Lynn (Joe) Galles of Remsen, Allen Vaske of Denver, CO., Randy (Jane) Vaske of Remsen; brother-in-law, Dennis (Janice) Schorg of Remsen; sister-in-law, LaDonna Laughton of LeMars, IA.  

She was preceded in death by her parents Cletus (Ophelia) Vaske, in laws, Leonard (Ida) Schorg, brothers-in-law, Joe Galles, Cleo Laughton and Edward Singer.   

Casketbears will be, Jonathan, Travis and Benjamin Kohler, Zachary Thompson, Cameron, Wesley, Derrick, Spencer, Carter and Brody Schorg.
