Silverius “Berries” Schroeder, 95, of Remsen, IA died Saturday, April 29, 2017, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen, Iowa.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday May 3, 2017 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen, with the Rev. William McCarthy officiating and Deacon Rick Roder assisting. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation with family present will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, with a parish rosary at 5 p.m., followed by a vigil prayer service at 7p.m., then a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus rosary and chalice presentation at 7 p.m. all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen. He was born Jan. 12, 1922, the son of Joseph and Clara (Hansen) Schroeder. He was born and raised on a century farm south of Remsen and attended both country school and St. Mary’s Catholic School. Silverius lived and farmed his whole life on the family farm in which he was born. Over the years he enjoyed playing cards, fishing and he also liked to tinker and fix things.
He was currently the oldest original parish member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen. He was also a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus and a past member of the bowling league.
He is survived by; two brothers, Irvin (Norma) Schroeder of Remsen, Gilbert (Paula) Schroeder of Remsen; one sister, Celesta Rupp of Cherokee, IA; numerous nieces and nephews.
Silverius was preceded in death by one brother-in-law, Wilmer Rupp, two nieces, Susan Schroeder and Karen Sanow, two great-nieces, Kim Nguyen and Wendy Sanow.
