Sally L. Steffens, 85, of Cleghorn, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at the Heartland Care Center in Marcus. A private family graveside service will take place at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Cherokee, Iowa. Rev. Kevin Roop of Peace Lutheran Church in Marcus will officiate.

Sally Lou Steffens was born on June 9, 1935 in Hartley, Iowa, the daughter of John Merritte and Lucille (Kunst) Brehmer. She attended school in Hartley. On September 30, 1950, Sally and Alvin C. Steffens were united in marriage at Worthington, Minnesota.

Sally and Alvin made their home on a farm near Cleghorn, Iowa. Together they farmed and raised their children until Alvin passed away on July 28, 1997. Sally remained on the farm and moved to the Heartland Care Center two years ago.

Sally was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and had taught Sunday School when her children were younger. She enjoyed crocheting and reading. Sally also liked to cook, watch birds and assisted with the dairy operation.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Lloyd Steffens of Jefferson, SD, Thomas Steffens and his wife, Mary Jane of Marcus, IA, Mary L. Steffens of Meriden, IA, Rebecca Steffens of Cleghorn, IA and Daniel Steffens of Sioux Falls, SD; 6 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; brothers, Dennis Leth and his wife, JoAnn of Hartley, IA, Richard Leth of Hartley, IA, Jerry Leth and his wife, Susie of Hartley, IA; a brother-in-law, LeRoy Steffens of Hartley, IA; sisters-in-law, Louise Vogt of Spencer, IA, Elaine Brehmer of Lantry, SD and Marge Brehmer of Spencer, IA; along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alvin; a grandson, Joshua Steffens; brothers, John “Jack” Brehmer and his wife, Sylvia, Ray Brehmer, Ronald “Ron” Brehmer and Terry Leth and his wife, Pam; a brother-in-law, Kenneth Steffens; sisters-in-law, Carol Leth, Arlene Sampson, Velma Williams, Shirley Schelich and Leona Wellman.
