Darrell J. Stowater, 79, of Marcus, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Marcus, Iowa. Rev. Don Meyer and Vicar Phillip Beyersdorf will officiate. Burial will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, rural Marcus. Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 26, 2012 at the Earnest – Johnson Funeral Home in Marcus. The family will be present from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. to greet friends. There will also be one hour of visitation on Saturday at the church prior to the funeral. Pallbearers will be Doug Stowater, Jay Stowater, McCord Stowater, Steve Stodden, Steve Peters and Kirk Utesch.
Darrell James Stowater was born on May 8, 1933 in Plymouth County, Iowa the son of J.C. and Ella (Schoenrock) Stowater. He attended country school and later graduated from Marcus High School in 1951. After graduation, Darrell began farming south of Marcus after his father passed away.
On August 14, 1960 Darrell and Shirley Margaret Stanley were united in marriage at First Lutheran Church in Omaha, Nebraska. They made their home on a farm south of Marcus. Along with crop farming, Darrell raised all types of livestock but primarily fed cattle.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Marcus where he served the church in various leadership roles. In earlier years, Darrell and Shirley enjoyed traveling to cattle shows and sales in the United States and Canada. He enjoyed livestock sales and visiting with others, making numerous friends. Darrell enjoyed his son’s sporting events and this carried through for his grandchildren and others in the Marcus area.
He will be dearly missed by his four sons, Tyler and his wife Joni of Brandon, SD, Todd and his wife Elizabeth of Algona, IA and Troy and his wife Londa of Wayne, NE and Trent of Marcus, IA; grandchildren, Jodi and her husband Brent Goodrich, Ashley and her husband Eric Shubkagel, Brooke, Taylor, Kennedy, McKenzie, McCord, Jay and Laura Stowater; great-grandchildren, Brock, Grace and Avery Goodrich, Haidyn Shubkagel; a sister, Linda Wheeler of Cherokee, IA; a brother, Rodney and his wife Sandy Stowater of Cherokee, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley on April 20, 1997; a grandson, Clint Wayne Stowater; and a brother-in-law, Larry Wheeler.
