Viola E. “Vi” Krier, 92 years old, of Remsen, IA, died Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at her home in Remsen, IA.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 21, 2012, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen with Rev. William McCarthy officiating & Msgr. Roger Augustine concelebrating & Deacon Rick Roder assisting. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 20, 2012. There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
Vi was born April 3, 1920, at Alton, IA, the daughter of John & Theresa (Mousel) Konz. Vi was raised and educated in the Alton area and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy. After school she resided at home with her parents and did domestic work in the area.
On Sept. 25, 1945 she married Raymond Krier. The couple farmed south of Remsen until 1979 when they retired and moved into Remsen. Ray died April 15, 2010.
Vi was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, church guild & Catholic Daughters of America. She loved cooking and baking especially pies, and the best chocolate chip cookies, which she always sent home with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed doing embroidery work, and made many treasured pillow cases and towels.
Survivors include; her seven children, Jim (Karen) Krier, Jerry (Sandy) Krier, Jan (Stan) Scheitler, Connie (Bob) Plathe, Bev (Tom) Bacan, Ron (Rose) Krier all of Remsen, Nancy (Dick) Augustine of Sioux City, IA; 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; one sister, Margaret Lehnertz of Redmond, OR; one brother, Pete (Delores) Konz of Alton, IA; one sister-in-law, Agnes Konz of Alton, IA.
Preceded by: her parents; one grandson, Adam Krier; her twin sister, Leola (Omar) Ricke; four brothers, Cletus (Mary) Konz, Francis Konz, Bob (Bernice) Konz, Ron Konz; Sisters & Brothers-in-law, Wally Lehnertz, Clarinda (Pete) Wurth, Miranda (Bernie) Wurth, Clarence (Phyllis) Streff.
Casket Bearers will be: Dan, Luke & Emma Krier, Brian Augustine, Troy Scheitler & Stephanie Castera.
